4 out of 5 stars A good starter deal.   August 30, 2010
Robert
I got this for a starter system, and it does the job. If you wanna start collecting records, well, this'll do the job. It's not gonna set the world on fire with it's quality of sound, but it works just fine. My only real caveat with this turntable is the kinda cheap, Fischer-Price plastic feel it has. But I bought it because it does the job for the price I paid for it.

4 out of 5 stars Terrible sound- fixed with EQ switch which should be OUTSIDE   July 8, 2010

OLD REVIEW: I bought this turntable a few years ago but only recently decided to use it. It came assembled so I did not deal with that part. The sound quality is TERRIBLE!!

(UPDATED INFORMATION: I had to dis assemble the turntable to access the EQ switch. My receiver does had the PHONO outlets, so I needed to change the EQ switch on the turntable. Apparently, if you buy one assembled, it comes with the default setting that assumes there is NO phono plug on your receiver. Once reassembled (belt came off and had to play with it a bit to get it right)..the turntable is terrific...but the EQ switch should be located on the OUTSIDE of the machine.)

OLD REVIEW: My Cds and tapes sound fine using the same receiver and speakers but the records are horrible. I cleaned them and tried again. No luck. Moved the speakers as recommended in the trouble shooting section of the manual. No improvement. Checked the connections-per manual. No improvement. Bought a new stylus in case the original one got damaged in the couple moves I made since buying the turntable. NO improvement. I give up. I think I got a bad one and too late to return. Circuit City is out of business.

5 out of 5 stars Old records live again!   July 4, 2010

Great add-on to component system; knew we held on to our vinyl collections for a reaason. Turntable hooks up easily to older components & you can't go wrong w/Sony elecronics.

5 out of 5 stars Blast from the Past   July 2, 2010

I bought this Sony turntable on or about April 30, 2010 in order to play my Beatles records. In my opinions, vinyl is the only way to play the Beatles and this wonderful turntable allows me to do just that. It produces a rich, full stereo sound that blows CD players away. However, I must admit that I also have a good stereo amplifier. This Sony turntable is also priced right. It's very affordable. This product rocks!!! Tom

2 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money   June 22, 2010

I paid about $50 for this turntable one year ago. The biggest problem with this turntable is that even the slightest floor vibrations cause obnoxious bass thumps that make my speakers bounce like crazy. And don't turn the amp too loud or the vibrations from the speakers cause obnoxious feedback through the turntable. This turntable needs some kind of shocks or suspension to absorb floor vibrations. When the needle hits the record, or is lifted, it also causes loud bass thumps through my speakers that strain the amp/speakers. Another problem with this turntable is that the RCA output cable is literally 1 foot long- I am NOT exaggerating. So if you plan on placing the turntable more than a foot away from your amp, you'll need to invest in an RCA extension cord and an RCA female-female converter. I won't comment on the audio quality because this is the only turntable I've ever owned, but it seems mediocre to me. Once again, another chintzy Sony product.. they really make junk these days. =/
